|More About Our Family
Our Special Interests
Gardening: We both love gardening. It is one way we connect with Nature. There is a sense of calmness, tranquility, accomplishment and satisfaction in working the soil and seeing things grow. We like to plant perennials that return year after year. We also experiment with different vegetables and herbs. Eating fruits from our fruit trees we planted and making dishes with vegetables and herbs from our garden is truly fulfilling.
Traveling: We believe in working hard but always finding time for pleasure. We love international exploration as it opens up much opportunity for us to immerse ourselves in other cultures and develop greater appreciation for all the sweet blessings around us and widening our worldview. One of our favorite things to do on travel is seek out unique foods, get to know all the hidden gems and beach hop.
Fitness: We are avid exercisers and truly believe in maintaining a well-rounded and balanced lifestyle. We take full advantage of our well-equipped home gym and enjoy various outdoor activities. Dexter completed his undergraduate on a track and Field scholarship hence he maintains a close association with friends in this area and enjoys being able to coach others.
As a couple, our spirituality is our foundation. We make it through each day not because of our own might but because we are blessed and have been shown much grace. We have much to be thankful for. Our faith in God is demonstrated each day through our reliance on the word and striving to be an example through our actions to all around us. We truly believe that everyone in creation shares a spiritual connection.
Our Family & Friends
Our families and friends reside all over the world. Social media is our best friend for staying connected. We make time to come together for weekends, summers and holidays. We love to poke fun, laugh, have in-depth conversations and completely immerse ourselves in the company of each other. Our family and friends are ecstatic we are adopting. They have already laid claim to summers stating our child will be in a different state or country spending time with them. We know for sure our son or daughter will have an abundance of love poured upon them.
We have the most adorable Bichon Frise. Tisdale is a playful, gentle dog with the perfect temperament. He loves to cuddle and is a great movie watching companion. We can visualize Tisdale and our child quickly becoming best buddies.
Our Occupation
Education is a priority within our family. We both have graduate degrees with Maria completing her PhD shortly. Dexter currently works with Veterans as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and Maria works with Native Americans as Licensed Mental Health Counselor. We enjoy our careers very much and finds it quite rewarding as it enables us to serve and help others. For our child we plan on taking advantage of our state’s college saving plan and setting aside money privately.
Our family residence is a Cape Cod-style open-concept home within two miles of the beach. Our home sits on spacious and picturesque manicured lawns including edible fruit trees, raised herb/vegetable beds and perennial gardens.
Our quiet neighborhood is approximately an hour’s drive from Boston. Quite often, there are moms and dads pushing strollers, kids riding bikes and couples walking for exercise. Our neighborhood is host to a plethora of community events to include children focused activities, playgrounds, youth centers, bike-riding paths, water activities, parks, schools, restaurants and medical care.
State of Residence
We reside in the beautiful Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the most populous state in the New England region, the origins of four past US presidents, the home of multiple sports teams, prestigious educational institutions, the second largest cranberry crop producer and the first state to institute:
o Thanksgiving (Plymouth, 1621)
o Post Office (Boston, 1639)
o American public library (Boston, 1653)
o Swim school in America (1827 with John Quincy Adams being one of the first enrolled)
o Basketball game was played in (Springfield, 1891) and volleyball (Holyoke, 1895)
o American subway system (Boston, 1897)
