A Letter from Joseph & Caroline
Dear Birthmother,
We are Caroline and Joseph and we, along with our daughter, Jaden, are so excited to be on this adoption journey with you. We are an outgoing and adventurous family who enjoys going on walks, playing games, and trying foods from different cultures. We also enjoy traveling—we just returned from living in France for a year. We are excited to grow our family and provide your child with a loving home to call their own. We promise to raise your child to be a smart, passionate, and thoughtful individual.
About Us
We have been together for three years. We are both on their second marriage and loving every minute of it. We found each other through work—we are both college professors. Caroline is in French and Francophone Studies, Joseph is in sociology. When we are not working, we love spending time with our daughter, Jaden, Caroline’s twelve-year-old daughter from a previous marriage. Together, we love watching movies (La La Land is a family favorite), listening to music (we all agree that Aretha Franklin is the greatest), and playing board games (Uno and Monopoly games can get competitive). Most of all, we love traveling. This past year, we’ve been to France, Ghana, Spain, Portugal, and England. We are excited to share our world with your child. We especially look forward to taking them to Ghana and France!
About Joseph
Joseph was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, and moved to the U.S. as a teenager. He has lived in several states since moving (IL, NY, WI, OH, MS) and now calls North Carolina home. He is outgoing, loves talking to people, and is a passionate sociology professor who teaches and writes about black culture, especially food and music. He is also very passionate about helping others follow their dreams and supporting them when they need it. He loves listening to music—in fact, his first book is about the history of hip hop. Joseph also loves playing and watching sports, especially soccer. He is looking forward to sharing his love of sports with our next child and discovering and nurturing their interests.
About Caroline
Caroline was born and raised in northern France. Her aspirations brought her to school in the U.S. where she got her degree and now teaches and writes about French and West African film and the experiences of mixed-race people. Caroline is incredibly caring—she is always attuned to the needs of her family, friends, and even her students. She is a wonderful professor and loves to sing. She sings with a band that performs for small local benefits a few times a year. She also loves exercising, especially group exercising at her Crossfit box. Finally, Caroline loves spending time and laughing with her family and friends. She is very excited about reading to our next child and teaching him or her how to speak French.
Our Daughter
Our daughter, Jaden, is so very mature for being 12 years old and she is thrilled to be a big sister. She loves listening to music, singing, reading, and going to the theater. In her free time, Jaden enjoys watching T.V. and being creative—she particularly enjoys painting. She also loves playing with children—she is excited to share her favorite childhood toys with her new sibling and looks forward to teaching them how to paint.
Our Home in North Carolina
We live in a mid-century modern home that has charming and funky architecture. It is 4000 square-feet and has half an acre of back and front yard that we enjoy working on. We love our home because it has so many unique spaces to hangout. We also love our big projector, which we use for family movie nights. We have four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, two living rooms, and a large basement. One of the bedrooms is already being set up for your child.
Our Promise
There are so many other things we look forward to sharing with your child. Three things we absolutely promise to share are- first, our love of education: we’re both college professors and we’re lucky to do what we love. We will give your child access to all the education opportunities so that so they too can follow their passions. Second, our multi-cultural, international family: We live in the U.S., yet we also consider Ghana and France home and so our home is bilingual (English and French). Third, our love of art and culture. Caroline studies literature and film. Joseph writes about music and food. Jaden, our daughter, loves theater. We are excited to share all of this and more with your child.
